Bejorn, Bernie and Britta from Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue have been bottle fed and cared for diligently by our maternity foster family. It has been under the care of a veterinarian since it was born via cesarean section. This litter underwent antibiotic therapy at a very young age due to exposure to bacterial infection from their mother in utero . The weaning process took longer than it normally does with this litter since they have a very sensitive gastrointestinal system. The foster family has taken a lot of time and worked closely with a veterinarian to find a diet that will provide the essential nutrients necessary for their growth and development. Keeping this is mind, these puppies will grow into giant breed dogs and will require more than from their owners than most dogs. We highly recommend feeding this litter of puppies the diet that you will receive when adopting them. The brand Zignature has been found to be successful in not causing gastroenteritis. They are not given any treats . A consultation with your veterinarian will be necessary prior to making any changes in their diet. We have done our very best to ensure the health and wellbeing of these puppies, but as with any dog coming from a rescue situation...we make no guarantees about any long term health issues that could arise. Potential adopters of this litter would ideally have prior experience with the breed. They are not suitable for apartments, condos or homes with no yards. The Great Pyrenees is a gentle giant, but bred to work. They can make excellent companions if properly trained. They are not ever to be trusted outside without supervision because they have a tendency to wander. Secure fencing of 6 feet high is a must and so is regular exercise. The Pyrenees is by nature a guardian dog and will be protective over their families. Proper socialization with other dogs and strangers at a young age is highly recommended. It is also important to note that sometimes Heartworm prevention can exceed the normal cost due to the size of the dog. It may take 2 boxes rather than just one to safely protect an adult Great Pyrenees from Heartworm Disease. Regular brushing and bathing is required to maintain the dense coat of the Pyr. Nail trims, especially on the rear double dew claws should be done every 6-8 weeks to ensure that they dont grow into the skin. (This is a common problem with the breed.
