The Ferrari 288 GTO, built between 1984 to 1987 was considered Ferraris first super car and was built to compete in the new Group B Race series. However, after the death of Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto in the 1986 Tour de Corse, the FIA disestablished the class, the 288 GTO never raced and all 272 cars build remained purely road cars. The 288 GTO has a 2.8 liter, 394 hp V8 engine with twin IHI turbochargers, intercoolers and a Weber-Marelli fuel injection system. The 288 GTO is an impressive performer with 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 189 mph, making it the first street-legal production car to reach 186 mph. Of the 272 units produced, all still exist today.
